The Bruin Rooting Guide: “Who Are You Rooting For?!” – 2019 Week 4

Below is the Week 4 rooting guide. We will rank the games in order of importance to Bruin fans – from least important to game of the week.  The relevance of this was low last week, but it’s even at an all-time low as we begin conference play. A brand new season starts today, so we will take this as a fresh start.

Byes: Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Arizona (opponent next week)

San Diego State vs Utah State

The Aztecs took down the Aggies as expected. This week they play a much more dynamic QB in Jordan Love. Hopefully the 3-3-5 can contain him as well as it contained our QB and SDSU continues their run.

#22 Washington @ BYU

The Huskies beat Hawaii last week pretty convincingly and they now face a BYU team which took down USC at home. We hope that the Cougars (from Provo) are able to do it once again vs Chris Peterson’s men. Booo Huskies

#23 Cal @ Ole Miss

The lone non-conference game this week is Cal looking to repeat the result from last season, but this time in Oxford. With Cal’s first week in the the polls, the last thing we want them to do is to fall out by losing to a bottom SEC team. Ole Miss is the favorite, so we just need Cal to cover the 2.5 and not look bad on the field.

#24 Arizona State vs Colorado

A bit of controversy at the end of the game last week, but Arizona State showed some moxie beating the Spartans to jump up into the ranks. Meanwhile, the Colorado was stumped against a tough triple option from Air Force. Only because the Sun Devils are ranked and we play them before Colorado, we are rooting for them today. It just doesn’t help our Herm vs Chip comparisons as 2nd year coaches.

#10 Utah @ USC

This game happened last night and of course we were rooting for the Utes to beat USC. However, the Pac-12 once again has set up one of its biggest contenders for failure by scheduling them on the road on a Friday night in the Coliseum. We saw a poor o-line performance and torching of Utah’s lauded secondary by the Trojans’ uber-talented WR corp and 3rd string QB. You couldn’t make up this stuff if you tried, but here we are. The Trojans looked good and Drake Jackson showed he is going to be a problem for the next 3 years. This probably is the real game of the week, but it happened already, so the below is.

Game Of The Week : #16 Oregon vs Stanford

Game of The Week: After Utah’s loss last night, Oregon is the lone Pac-12 team that has any chance to make the playoff. They loss in a thriller last year to the Cards and we hope they get revenge today against a diving Stanford program winning by at least 13 points. They have to show they are better than UCF today who will be their main comparison given the Knights handled the Stanford pretty easily last Saturday.
